Biochip
is a small solid platform made of glass, membrane, or plastic materials,
upon which biological information can be stored, retracted, and analyzed.
Biochip technologies incorporate elements of microfluidics, micromachining,
synthetic chemistry, separation technologies, and detection technologies
of biological molecules.
Biochip technologies are moving towards the following directions:
■ Miniaturization- tiny apparatus to
handle tiny amount of samples
■ Integration- a small apparatus to
perform multiple functions
■ Parallelism- biological reactions
and information can be compared and
analyzed in parallel.
